A Celebrity cricketer’s spouse has shared her personal testimony, which has provoked reactions from both non-Christians and Christians that are both favorable and bad. In a nation where the acceptance of God or the rejection of God is the norm, we must learn to listen to and learn from one another's religious perspectives. If we fail to do this, we risk inciting unnecessary religious war in Sri Lanka. It is a practice in our nation, no matter what creed we follow, to seek the blessings of our religion for both national and personal events in our lives. While some have limited it to one’s personal preference of religion, others have acknowledged the importance of bringing a multi-religious atmosphere to such events, enabling everyone to find their religious identity. With the claims of certain individuals that the positive outcome of a particular event is due to their personal religious pleadings, there seems to be an uproar from certain other religious or non-religious groups e...

The conquering of the city of Troy with a wooden horse is an ancient story that speaks volumes to the Church today. The Greek soldiers fought for ten years but could not capture the city of Troy. Ulysses, a brilliant strategist, decided to have a large wooden horse built and left it outside the city walls as a supposed gift to the unconquerable Trojans. The Greeks pretended to be sailing away having accepted defeat. The proud Trojans brought the wooden horse inside the city walls. The same night Greek soldiers who were hiding inside the wooden horse sneaked out and opened the city gates to let their fellow soldiers enter the city. They massacred the residents, looted the city, and then burned it to the ground. Ever since the Trojan horse has become a symbol of deception and infiltration. The same seems to be happening to the Christian Church in Sri Lanka. The Church has been tricked and infiltrated by several trojan horses which the Church had not perceived. The worst is the chur...

Touch not the Lord's Anointed When pastors, clergy or church leaders have been badly caught for their erroneous teachings and actions they seem to be using the scripture to counteract those who criticize and speak against them. “Touch not the Lord’s anointed” is a famous phrase uttered by certain servants of God as well as those who hero-worship them. Human beings have an instinct to self-defend when exposed and uncovered. Some servants of God seem to be using scripture wrongfully to defend themselves and go to the extent of pronouncing a death sentence. Who are the anointed ones? The anointed persons as taught in the Bible cannot be narrowed to the preachers, teachers and prophets only. An anointed person is someone who has been called by God and set apart for God to work through...

THE COMPLICATIONS OF MAKING THE SAME INDIVIDUAL AS HEAD OF STATE AND HEAD OF GOVERNMENT On the 9th of July 2022, the people’s struggle against the Rajapaksha regime took a different turn. The President’s House, President’s Secretariat and the Temple Trees Residence were taken over by the people without an armed struggle. It made the Rajapaksha dynasty tremble and run into hiding. With these happenings, the countrymen have to take stock of what should be changed to avert a repeat of history. Very particularly we have to now process and identify the failures in the constitution of our country. In this article, the focus is on one of the major complications that have been encountered in having an Executive President who is both the head of the State and the Government. Before the 1978 Constitution, we had two separate persons as heads of the state and the government. With the personal preferences of late J. R. Jayawardena to make himself an Executive President ...

SRI LANKA WRESTLES AGAINST POWERS IN THE HEAVENS ABOVE AND T HE KINGS OF THE EARTH Have you ever felt that it is so hard and difficult to fight against “the powers that be”, particularly in Sri Lanka? The “………Go Gama” concept was initially set up at Galle Face in Sri Lanka, which made all of us feel very hopeful about seeing the exit of certain people who were in power. However, this is what we hear now from the public: · “However much we tell him to go he is not going” · “Though he resigned and went he will control everything through their agent……..” · “The expected national government and an all-party Cabinet will never come because the dynasty will never allow it” · “ I am giving up my fight because as long as they remain in power we will see no change” · “Th...
